School and Its Secret Non-Academic Soft Skills

The sole aim why people go to college is to earn a college degree. Individuals rarely realize the fact that aside the physical lectures that take place in schools; there are a lot of hidden lessons picked up as a result of the daily routine of school. Habits required in maintaining a lifestyle worthy of accolade is not taught in the classroom but is acquired along the way while going through the academic sessions.

Too much emphasis have been placed on the academic benefits of the system of the school but not enough people understand the skills that come with learning. These skills come in handy in independent living. Employers of labour are keen on recruiting those people with a track record of skills that are associated with the work environment.
Here are a few habits to pick up from college that would aid your daily living even after college:

Time management

Amidst the daily routine of attending lectures, preparing for exams and extra-curricular activities, individuals learn how to manage their time. This skill is not included in any syllabus but when handling these daily academic activities, students unavoidably learn how to manage time. Time management has been known to be useful in jobs and day to day routines.

Technology

The world has become a global village where technology is slowly taking over. Outside the four walls of the institution are jobs which require the use of computers and gadgets and only those who are tech savvy are worthy of them. Unknowingly, during the course of studying in schools; your career skills for technology are sharpened for a great independent life.

Public speaking

Ever wonder how some people are revolutionary in speaking publicly to a group of people? It starts in school when you are required to present projects and seminars to a classroom full of people. Little would you know that you are slowly picking up the skill of public speaking and this is another non-academic skill acquired in schools.

Team work

Those laboratory groups you were put in really were not a waste of time. Aside learning  from the scientific research, you may have managed to understand what it means to work in a team with people. Embracing the opinion of others and working towards a common goal is one skill that is important in the future.
Most job applications include the need for a team player as this is necessary for the goals and objectives of any company.
The behaviour and character of human beings are not inherited or formed at a go. They are carefully and slowly inculcated into a person’s life either by habit or by conscious effort. The school system is a holistic platform which does not just shape a person professionally but unknowingly teaches behavioural skills necessary for the independent living.
